NATIONAL IDENTITY CARDS.

National Identity Cards
Another stipulation of the Housing and Redistricting Act was the National Identity Card. Originally an extension of the Jaworski administration's Secure ID and enhanced passport programs, the National Identity Card acts as your be all end all document of identification in the United States of 2029. National Identity Cards — or NICs, for short — are used in lieu of driver's licenses and have the possibility of being transferred to passport status if the United States ever lifts its travel embargo. This is mostly due to the depth and breadth of vital statistics included within the space of a credit card, which goes from the usual height, weight, and eye color to Social Security Card and DNA sequence.

More than the usual super-loaded personal information is included on the NIC, however; many schools, businesses, and banks have integrated their card services into the NIC, making the little cards as handy as they are suspiciously prone to identity theft and enabling invasions of privacy. Although the government is arguably becoming more and more invasive, even officials admits that such a program could err on the side of abuse. As such, the NIC program is famous for its "beta" status, with many campaigning for it to be retrograded to a simple ID card status or abandoned altogether.

Features
Statistics and features available on the NIC include:
  • Vital statistics (height, weight, sex, etc.)
  • Country or region of origin (see below)
  • Social Security number or comparable identification number
  • DNA sequence
  • District address
  • Banking integration
  • Business and academic identity integration
  • Public transportation integration
  • Apartment building access (participating locations)
  • Gift card integration (participating locations)
Regions
National Identity Cards come in "regional classes" — that is to say, the features of above are affected by your character's region of birth classification below. Choices for locale include:
  • Northeast: Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Massachusetts, Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey
  • Southeast: Maryland, Delaware, West Virginia, Virginia, Kentucky, Tennessee, North Carolina, South Carolina, Arkansas, Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia, and Florida
  • Great Lakes: Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Iowa, and Missouri.
  • Midwest: North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, and Oklahoma
  • Southwest: Texas, Montana, Wyoming, Colorado, New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Nevada
  • West: Washington, Oregon, California, Idaho, Alaska, and Hawaii
  • Commonwealth: Any other territory within the United States (e.g.: Puerto Rico) not considered a state.
  • Foreign National: Any country not within the United States.

Exceptions to the above are naturalized citizens born in a foreign country, who take on the region where they were naturalized.
